All that is necessary for salvation has been revealed. However, God has not ceased to speak to His creation! The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “even if Revelation is already complete, it has not been made completely explicit; it remains for Christian faith gradually to grasp its full significance over the course of the centuries” (n. 66) Throughout the centuries after Christ's Resurrection, certain saintly individuals in their lifetime on this earth have sometimes received private revelations from Jesus or Mary, or from angels and saints in heaven. These messages have occasionally been shared with others so that they may be of great spiritual help to the Church Pilgrim in every following age. Individuals are not the final arbiters of what constitutes an authentic private revelation—the Church is—and so we are called to always submit humbly and obediently to whatever She definitively decides. It is with the Church, then, that we "test" prophecy and private revelations: "Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 67) So far Medjugorje has only been officially recognised by the Catholic Church as a place of pilgrimage. None of the apparitions with their messages have been officially recognised nor denounced. The Faithful await the definitive judgement of the Catholic Church on these matters; which will probably only occur once all the apparitions there have finished.
